Materials used:

100 grams white worsted weight yarn

100 grams red worsted weight yarn

150 grams navy worsted weight yarn

5 mm hook

SC = single crochet

HDC = half double crochet

DC = double crochet

The lapghan is simply a large granny square. Beginning with RED, chain 4 and join to form circle.

Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as 1 DC), 2 DC, Chain 2, **3 DC, Chain 2**, Repeat between ** ** 2 more times and join with slip stitch in the top of first Chain 2. Slip stitch along top of DC's to the next "Chain 2" stitches.

Round 2: In the "Chain 2" section make Chain 2, 2 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC, Chain 2. In the next "Chain 2" section make **3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC, Chain 2**, repeat between ** ** in each of the 2 remaining "Chain 2" spaces from previous round, join with slip stitch in the top of first Chain 2. Slip stitch along top of DC's to the next "Chain 2" stitches.

Round 3: In the corner "Chain 2" section make Chain 2, 2 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC, Chain 2. **In the next side "Chain 2" section make 3 DC, Chain 2. In the next corner "Chain 2" section make 3 DC, Chain 2, 3 DC, Chain 2, repeat between ** ** to end of round and join with slip stitch in the top of first Chain 2. Slip stitch along top of DC's to the next "Chain 2" stitches.

Rounds 4 - 8: Continue as for Round 3 but on each round the "Chain 2" side sections will increase by one section per side. So on Round 4 there will be 2 groups of 3 DC per side, Round 5 there will be 3 3 DC groups and so on…..

Rounds 9 - 16: Continue in same pattern using WHITE.

Rounds 17 - 24: Continue in same pattern using RED.

Rounds 25 - 32: Continue in same pattern using WHITE.

Rounds 33: Change to BLUE and DC in each stitch around skipping the "Chain 2" sections. Make 4 DC in each corner.

Round 34 - 39: Make 1 DC in each stitch around. In the corner 4 DC stitches of previous round make 1 DC in first stitch, 2 DC in each of next 2 stitches, 1 DC in last corner stitch.

Break thread and weave in loose ends.

STARS: Make 12

Using WHITE, chain 4. Make 14 DC in 1^st chain and join with slip stitch to form circle. (15 DC)

Chain 6. Make 1 SC in chain stitch closest to hook. Then 1 HDC in each of next 2 chain stitches followed by 1 DC in each of last 2 chain stitches. Skip 2 DC stitches in circle and join with slip stitch in 3^rd DC. This forms 1 point of the star. Repeat 4 more times around to make a 5 point star.

Break thread and weave in loose ends.

Sew 3 stars in each corner of lapghan.
